Tiger Woods

07.Dec.09

Tiger Woods is not the first nor will he be the last sporting icon to take a fall from grace, he is though arguably the biggest. Being one of the most recognisable people on the planet certainly has its advantages, but it also means that you live your life under intense media scrutiny and god help you if you get caught out doing something you shouldn’t. But I do feel that the relish some media outlets have shown in their reporting of the story has been distasteful. The only people that Tiger Woods has hurt are his family and he should now be left alone as he tries to repair some of the damage he has done.

I had to laugh last week at the outrage expressed by some that Arsene Wenger did not shake hands with Mark Hughes after Arsenal’s 3-0 defeat by Manchester City in the Carling Cup. If that is the worst piece of behaviour you have witnessed at a football ground then you’ve been watching a different game to me. But I am sure that at some point over the next few months FIFA will roll out a new rule that means managers are forced to shake hands with each other as part of the “Fair Play” directive. Meanwhile on the pitch the players will continue to swear and cheat with impunity with the footballing authorities seemingly coping a deaf one. ‘Beautiful Game’? Don’t make me larf!
