Daer Michael, I wish to thank you for taking up the plight of older people and the way they are treated.  In 2008 I was fortunate to win the first ever dignity in care award in Wales.  The evening was great and more so because I had been nominated by my staff team.  I have worked in health and Social care for over 30yrs and I have fought for care of the elderly to be on a par with child care.  We should be fighting for care staff to have a minimum of NVQ level 3 the same as child care, for staff not to be paid the lowest ever wage unlike child care, for the Protection of Vulnerable Adults to have as much clout as Child Protection,I could go on!  I am trying to go around homes explaining what dignity in care means in everyday practical terms.  We need everyone in our society to remember who the person is.  We should not label them EMI or elderly frail each one is an individual person with a wounderful patchwork of life history,  so let us remember that.
