I mean, her accent for the character is just perfect. The rest of the cast is very good, and they are somehow like I had imagined them... well, except for Tara, but the character is funny in its own way. The way mythology and urban myths and legends get mixed with reality is just amazing. So far, the series is just what the doctor and the dentist ordered to everyone who loves vampires and vampire stories. It might not be Supernatural, but it's one of those series which make you beg for more, even after watching the ending credits... That's why I say that you'll beg for another bite in the neck. Totally Addictive!!!

---------------------
The Tribe DVD 1-5
True Blood DVD 1-2
The Office DVD 1-6
Entourage DVD 1-6
30 Rock DVD 1-4
Gossip Girl DVD 1-3
Two and a Half Men DVD 1-7
Law and Order DVD 1-10
Bones DVD 1-5
South Park DVD 1-13
Doctor Who DVD 1-5
One Tree Hill DVD 1-7
The West Wing DVD 1-7
The X Files DVD 1-9

The Simpsons is art at its finest

The Simpsons is art at its finest. The opening season is the shortest containing 13 classic episodes compared to 20+ in the following seasons, which will all be released in order eventually. Sure the animation isn't as good and Homer's voice is a little different (even though it is the same person), but these stories are among the best and started the most entertaining series ever. This is the origin of many funny phrases that have become apart of American culture. Also, this will show each episode in its entirety. Syndicated reruns often cut out a few seconds per episode to make room for commercials, so unless you recorded the original airing you're probably missing something.
The Simpsons is the funniest, smartest show on television. This is satire at its best! It has a strong cast of characters which is one of the reasons it has survived for so many years. This DVD is a fan's dream, and is loaded with clips, commentary, and of course the groundbreaking first season of shows. It won't take as long.

I'm actually grateful that this was the final season. Too many shows linger far past the point where they've "jumped the shark." Invariably, a good television showlasts because the audience comes to identify with the characters and the various players almost become friends of the viewing family. Nip/Tuck was no exception. Even though some of the characters made absurd decisions and exhibited despicable behavior through the years, the writers managed to make the viewers care about what these people were going to do next. Like other reviewers, I'm going to miss the denizens of the Nip/Tuck universe.
The Tribe DVD 1-5
True Blood DVD 1-2
The Office DVD 1-6
Entourage DVD 1-6
The Simpsons DVD 1-21
Queer as Folks DVD 1-5
Nip Tuck DVD 1-7
Walt Disney DVD 153 Discs
MI5 DVD 1-8
Alias DVD 1-5
Monk DVD 1-8
Law and Order DVD 1-10
Bones DVD 1-5
South Park DVD 1-13
Doctor Who DVD 1-5
The West Wing DVD 1-7
The X Files DVD 1-9
007 James Bond dvd
Two and a Half Men DVD 1-7
Grey's Anatomy DVD 1-6
The Sopranos DVD 1-6

how i met your mother DVD 1-5
the office dvd 1-6

let me clarify my title a little. i'm a huge fan of the show and i own all 5 seasons on dvd and watch the new episodes religously every thursday night. up until season 6 i think every season of the office has its own charm and strong episodes especially seasons 3 & 4 which i believe are the strongest and near perfect. season 5 was really great but you could tell it was starting to lose its steam, especially the second half of the season. specifically starting with the episode that aired after the superbowl (fire drill). it seemed forced and like the writers were trying to cater to a larger audience via post superbowl viewers. it was like they saw the ratings for that episode and said "hey! we should start writing the episodes like this with more accessible/obvious humor cuz apparently people like it!" And that they did. the majority of the remaining episodes are great with some unforgetable moments (with michael starting his own paper company while pam gets promoted and ryan gets brought back) but it seems like the show was drifting off on a tangent toward the end and i felt like there was something "DIFFERENT" with the show. when i say "different", i mean i felt like i was being betrayed or someone was trying to pull a fast one on me (as weird as that sounds).

The Tribe DVD 1-5
True Blood DVD 1-2
The Office DVD 1-6
Entourage DVD 1-6
The Simpsons DVD 1-21
Queer as Folks DVD 1-5
Nip Tuck DVD 1-7
Walt Disney DVD 153 Discs
MI5 DVD 1-8
Alias DVD 1-5
Monk DVD 1-8
Law and Order DVD 1-10
Bones DVD 1-5
South Park DVD 1-13
Doctor Who DVD 1-5
The West Wing DVD 1-7
The X Files DVD 1-9
007 James Bond dvd
Two and a Half Men DVD 1-7
Grey's Anatomy DVD 1-6
The Sopranos DVD 1-6

how i met your mother DVD 1-5

monk dvd 1-8

And along the way, they provide a solid string of murder mysteries -- baffling crimes, obscure clues, and new eccentricities. And while there are many bittersweet moments, especially in the last two or three episodes, the season is peppered with some comedy as well (Monk hosts a hilariously squeaky-clean bachelor party) and some deliciously hilarious dialogue ("There is no Opposite Killer! If there was, you would have been killed by a falling rocket scientist years ago!").

And as for the ending... well, it has some major shocks and plot twists, and the mystery is rather brief and simple. However, the resolution of Monk's story is intensely satisfying and leaves you feeling warm'n'fuzzy.

Tony Shalhoub is, as ever, lovably oddballish as Adrian Monk; while his tragicomic performances are brilliant throughout the season, his performance in the final episode is shattering, raw and eventually uplifting. Traylor Howard, Jason Gray-Stanford and Ted Levine give solid performances (and their characters all get new romantic interests... some quite surprising!), and there are some excellent guest turns by Schram, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and Virginia Madsen. But Shalhoub is the undisputed star of this season.

It's a wrench to say goodbye to Monk and the gang after eight long years, but at least the eighth seasons-18-dvd-boxset-p-299.html]season is a brilliant farewell. It certainly doesn't travel well.

An announcement on the BBC news recently, stated that much of the money given by well intentioned british viewers, for the Bob Geldorf led requests for people to "give us your money" (expletives deleted), has finished up in the coffers of the military in African countries concerned, instead of helping the poor and vulnerable, a result that was pretty obvious and that many Brits. seem to resolutely ignore. Someone sits in a bath of baked beans, or dons a ridiculous chicken suit, or whatever and they are seen for what they are, at best, sad deluded wallies, at worst utter nutters, UNTIL, the magic word is introduced, they're doing it for CHARITY, then it is admirable! Live aid and all the other aids are not the first charities to help feed the lowlife militia and other terrorists in countries where the innocent are in dire need and don't receive large amounts of money intended for them, often due to lack of interest on the part of those in the limelight, in working behind the scenes to ensure contributions end up where they are intended, "celebrities" who are only too happy to be seen singing (or miming) some song designed to tug at our heart/purse strings. On a smaller, less important scale, another tacky side to certain "charitable" arrangements is the "turn-up", etc. fees that are paid to tv "personalities" who will have you believe "it's all for a good cause". Don't be fooled, before you part with your hard-earned, spend a bit of time "turning some rocks over" , you will be surprised how many creepy crawlies you find, feeding on your contributions.

I was approched by a woman in a shopping precinct, asking me to purchase goods that were part of the "fair trade" set-up. When I pointed out that it had been revealed by investigaters that, far from the arrangement benefitting farmers, many large companies were prolonging their suffering, due to sharp practices, she just couldn't accept that such lack of empathy could be displayed in this way. This situation may have improved more recently, but how are we to know for sure, when a world-wide arrangement, so clearly in the public eye, could go so tragically wrong.

The big names who are shown with leaders of countries and religions, spouting off about how we can end poverty and clear the debts of certain nations, are either very naive or very foolish. A study of problems in other countries, such as AIDS or national debt, will very often reveal a state of actual denial by those country's leaders, in the case of the former, and a criminal negligence in the latter case.

Next time you put your hand in your pocket or purse to give to a "deserving" cause, be sure your money doesn't help feed the armies of an unstable country, pay for a celeb's day out, or even decorate a chairman's home in expensive wallpaper, as has happened in the not too distant past.

Blogs

This seems like just another discontinued blog. There are thousands of them all over the net. Maybe there is a good reason but then, if someone can tell us that there is a Michelin star for the Royal Oak, surely they can tell us that Mike has a problem or whatever.
The lack of effort here, by someone who is supposed to be a communicator, leaves me wondering about his real values. The best thing for him to do is either to say that it is not worth the effort or to just delete the whole thing.
A very poor show. Each time this distressing situation is exposed, it seems that the danger of these wonderful animals disappearing from the forests (what is left of them) is becoming more possible, bringing these primates ever closer to the brink of extinction.
Once again, as so often happens with the destruction of animals and their habitat, man's greed is the motivating factor, in this case, the steady removal of the natural environment of the orangutangs, to make way for the growing of palm trees, in order to obtain the fruit that provides palm oil, a basic ingredient in so many products on our supermarket shelves, (yet not identified on the packaging).

In the programme, the image of a lone orangutan climbing a tall, slim tree trunk -there wasn't one branch left - spoke volumes, the barren, mud covered background, where huge machines have stripped away all surrounding vegetation, the way the animal seemed totally bemused by the alien landscape that was recently a part of the lush, green rainforest that was it's natural home.

Some may say that this is sentimentality for an albeit, endearing creature that is in the way of progress - that seems to be the opinion of those that are stripping the forests, but we cannot afford to sit back and watch another area of the fragile eco- system become an empty, desolate wasteland denying our children and our children's children of a magnificent example of the world's diverse wildlife and it;s environment and possubly, even their existence.

Here is an excerpt from the excellent BBC website, (address, bbc.co/panorama) that expose the products that use this ingredient, and what we can do to show how seriously we feel about this dreadful situation.

The Panorama website contains vital information for those who wish to exercise their conscience in this urgent matter, showing how "the challenge of saving the orangutan from extinction is trickling down to our weekjly shop" and how we can act to help toward a brighter future them, it is reasonably lengthy, but each line is informative and the item is instructive.
The challenge of saving the orangutan - man's closest relative - from extinction is trickling down to the weekly shop.

Many of the biscuits, margarines, breads, crisps and even bars of soap that consumers pick off supermarket shelves contain an ingredient that is feeding a growth industry that conservationists say is killing the orangutans.

The mystery ingredient in the mix is palm oil - the cheapest source of vegetable oil available - and one that rarely appears on the label of most products.

Palm oil is grown on land that was once home to the vast rainforests of Borneo, and the natural habitat of the orangutan.

It means there is no hope left for the most endangered sub-species of the orang-utan in west Kalamantan."

He said the wider environmental issue of greenhouse gases can no longer be overlooked by both manufacturers and everyday consumers.

"This is not just a matter for Indonesia to decide, this is a matter for the world."

'Greenwash'

The palm industry - valued at £5bn ($7.7bn) for Indonesia - is the country's third biggest export earner.

Many of the big manufacturers who buy that oil via European wholesalers say that while they are starting to find oil from sustainable sources, they are not yet in a position to trace the origin of all of the oil they use.

Currently, only 3% of the world's palm oil is certified sustainable, meaning it comes from plantations that pass an environmental and social impact test.

Many have joined the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) scheme set up to promote certification of where palm oil originates.

Others have set ambitious goals to use sustainable oil by 2015 or earlier, but Greenpeace's Shailendra Yashwant said the RSPO amounts to a "greenwash" because those commitments are unenforceable on the ground.

Bulk oil from a variety of plantations - including that of Duta Palma Group that the BBC found to be illegally clear-cutting - is mixed together and shipped around the world and sold on to manufacturers behind everyday products.

Duta Palma declined to comment on the BBC's evidence of illegal deforestation.

Consumer pressure

Hilary Benn, the Secretary of State for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, told Panorama the time is right for consumers to put pressure on manufacturers, demanding to know which of their products contain palm oil and assurances that it comes from a sustainable source.

Many of the sweets and staples in our shopping trolleys contain palm oil

Current labelling laws allow manufacturers to list palm oil as 'vegetable' oil, without singling out the palm oil content.

Many manufacturers, including industry giants Unilever and Proctor and Gamble, say their recipes can change and the amounts and types of oils they use can vary from week to week, making more detailed labels unworkable.

However, Sainsbury's supermarkets had earlier taken the decision to not only single out palm oil on the ingredients lists of their own-brand products, but to state directly that it is from a sustainable source.

Recently Unilever, the UK's largest user of palm oil in products that range from Dove soap to Pot Noodles, Knorr soups and Flora, terminated a large contract with a supplier called Sinar Mas, because of reports it was destroying high conservation value forests.

Unilever has told Panorama that while it may have used oil from Duta Palma in the past, it intends to overcome its supply system problems so that it no longer uses oil from the producer.

Secretary Benn said: "I think it's really about what consumers can do because the most powerful message that can be sent to companies is from their consumers about what it is they want to buy," he told reporter Raphael Rowe, citing the demand for free range eggs in the UK as an example of consumer influence.

Mr Benn said the participation by UK retailers and manufacturers in the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil is a step towards ensuring that palm oil is traceable and therefore increases the chances that it can be certified sustainable.

Heather Millls Dont Blame me I am never wrong.

I wonder if anyone caught the Heather Mills interview with Dr Pamela Stephenson on E4 last night. DAVID ATTENBOROUGH INTERVIEW

Naturalist and broadcaster David Attenborough was a bit of a skeptic on climate change, or as it is more popularly called, global warming, He was long unsure about the causes, but, unlike many peolple, eminent scientists included, he looked into the subject objectively, and weighed the available information, carefully sifting the facts from the popular assumptions, presumptions and speculation, from the pros and antis alike.
I have attached, below, his findings, obviously not comprehensive or conclusive, but all the same, even to a strong anti "global warming" critic, certain evidence that cannot be denied. What I found interesting was his realistic approach to this subject as opposed to those, on either side of the fence, who "poo poo" the opposite view and take a "you must believe me because it looks true" attitude, without providing one iota of evidence to support their argument.

If the link doesn't work, please look up "David Attenborough and climate change", on Youtube, and remember, he too was a g.w. skeptic. (Don't be put off by the American announcer, that's just an introduction.)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9ob9WdbXx0

They say repetition is the mother of retention, so on an important subject like this I offer the following, as the scientific stuff (that which is in italics) is not from me, but those who are investigating the available information with a far greater scientific mind than mine.

Politicians have obviously made themselves the targets of many of the woes that we are suffering, but unfortunately global warming as a conspiracy is highly unlikely.

Disregarding global warming as a figment of imagination by certain individuals or sections of society without any logical rebuff, displays a willingness to accept what one WANTS to be true rather than an examination of the available FACTS, and I DO mean FACTS.

To suggest that freezing weather proves global warming as tosh, is too simplistic for words, and is probably a result of our insular outlook, as an island race.

FACT; global warming is what it says, it is the GLOBAL rise in temperasture, not a local or individual occurence in little old Britain.

"So if it is the longest cold snap for 29 years, does that prove that the idea of global warming is a non-starter? Funnily enough, it doesn't. For once you look at current meteorological conditions across the whole world, a different picture emerges.

There is the intense Siberian cold, with some readings of 10C below normal or even more, and you can follow the freeze westwards through Scandinavia to Britain, parts of which are shown as more than 3C below the norm.

But look at the rest of the world – in north-east America and Canada, in north Africa, across the Mediterranean, through to south-west Asia, temperatures are very much above normal – in many places by more than 5C, and in parts of northern Canada, by more than 10C.

Closer to home, while we shivered yesterday, in Madrid the temperature was 10C against a seasonal average of 9C, and in Rome it was 13C, compared to an average of 11C. The weather's natural variability means it is impossible to draw long-term conclusions about a changing climate from any single episode, be it of hot, or cold."

To suggest that humans can have little effect on the weather is an example of being ignorant of established FACTS.

Until the clean air act outlawed the uncontrolled burning of fossil fuels, for decades, we experienced "pea-soupers" and smog every winter, especially in towns, where there was a much larger concentration of such usage in the homes. If, like myself, you have experienced such a horrible, and indeed, deadly occurrence, you will know that this is an incontrovertable FACT, and since the above named act, this nightmarish, annual incident has been successfully and largely overcome.

FACT; Deforestation is definitely eroding vast swarthes of land and depleting the earth's oxygen supply, trees being the chief provider of this essential gas, hence their moniker, the "lungs of the earth"

Global warming is a far too complex phenomenon to ignore, just because it doesn't appear to fit the facts or how we would like them to be.

The well known hole in the ozone layer has started to slowly shrink since the cut-down in the use of CFCs, The primary cause of ozone depletion is the presence of chlorine-containing source gases (primarily CFCs and related halocarbons). In the presence of UV light, these gases dissociate, releasing chlorine atoms, which then go on to catalyze ozone destruction.

There are so many factors that point toward global warming as a FACT, the greenhouse effect, The effect that soot and aerosols have, etc.

If we ignore the signs, we are, to use a topical analogy, skating on very thin ice, if we take a balanced view and consider the available information from both sides and "all stations in between", we may well reduce the considerably high levels of skin cancer alone, as well as other, countless effects on human and plant life that it could well be having.

I don't profess to be an expert on the subject, far from it, but I do beleive that we will never learn unless we take a careful look in our "rear view mirror" (the past) and have the humility to accept that there are usually 3 sides to an argument, your side, your opponent's side and the FACTS, which are usually in the middle!

Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand

It would be very interesting to know Michael's thoughts on the Ross/Brand/Sachs episode; in my opinion, Ross relies on sensationalism whereas Michael relied on his talents and those of his guests.

Parky's Jazzy Christmas

Hi all, Happy Christmas to you! Heads up on a nice parky radio show stocking filler.
Legendary broadcaster Michael Parkinson returns to Radio 2 to play two hours of his seasonal favorites, including classic Christmas tunes from Frank Sinatra, Diana Krall, Harry Connick Jr, Dean Martin and Michael Buble.

The show will be packed full of winter favourites and interspersed with Sir Michael's anecdotes about the songs, their origins and performers, including the time on his television show that Bing Crosby forgot the words to possibly the most famous Christmas song of them all, White Christmas.

Part of the BBC Christmas 2009 season.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00pd5w0

GLOBAL WARMING - Who's kidding who?

If anyone's wondering what happened to the polar icecaps, they're probably over here! I was always a sceptic on climate change - the climate has ALWAYS changed, and man has little or no power to affect this. The freezing weather we're experiencing now after several mild winters just proves that global warming is just a political con-trick used to get votes. So there!

CHRISTMAS NUMBER ONE - WHO CARES?

So Simon Cowell's stranglehold on the Christmas charts has been broken, by the simple expedient of someone promoting something even worse (if that's possible).

Why does this pathetic spectacle grab so many newspaper columns? Most people gave up on charts and singles long ago - the majority listen to what they like irrespective of whether it ever gets a sniff of the charts. Most people also like to listen to albums rather than a four-minute single. Or am I just getting older?

Tal Wilkenfeld

If Sir Michael was still doing his TV programme, and knowing how he loved showcasing talented musicians, I would bet any money he would have given a slot to Tal Wilkenfeld.

She is an absolutely amazing Bass player, and if you want to see this 24 year old Australian genius, google her name in to your computer and catch her playing bass to Jeff Becks lead guitar on " Cause we ended as lovers". Absolutely spell binding.

Jeff Beck himself has said he is in awe of her. When people like Eric Clapton invite her to play in his concerts then you know she must be something special.

I can just imagine Sir Michael going into raptures about her.

Paul.

ALED JONES - WHITE CHRISTMAS

Just been to a terrific production of Irving Berlin's White Christmas at the Lowry Theatre - an all-singing, all-dancing classic. Aled Jones proved his versatility in the role made famous by Bing Crosby in the film. The dancing recalled those Busby Berkeley films of the 30s. Co-starring Suzanne Shaw, Louise Plowright (touches of Ethel Merman!) and veteran actor Roy Dotrice, this really was a pleasure, and warmed our hearts on a bitterly cold night. The Great American Songbook really is timeless.

New Year's Day Concert

What a marvellous piece of quality programming the New Year's Day concert from Vienna was. The standard of the music, as ever, was superb, and the dance sequences amazing - choreography was dynamic, elegant and flawless.

Watching the dancers waltz through the wonderful museum building, with its classical columns providing the perfect backdrop of symmetry, was like watching a Busby Berkeley musical.

It was one of the best programmes I have seen for many months.

Christmas Day Viewing

No official viewing figures out yet, but yesterdays programmes were enjoyable if not Brilliant.

For me, again the highlight was the Northern humour that is the Royale Family. Catherine Tate was good, and Gavin and Stacey was ok. The soaps were all right as well if you like that sort of thing, and I suppose the kids will have loved Doctor Who.

I am not a Poirot fan so ITVs offering was poor in my opinion

In The Bleak News Winter!

One of the worst advances in recent years has been news channels. 24 hours to fill up with mostly rubbish and triviality. Sky News has to be one of the worst, often announcing a Breaking News story to full fanfare, only for the viewer to discover it is neither news nor that dramatic!

The media in this country now sem to jump on bandwaggons and create news, scandal and outrage over nothing, whipping people into frenzies. Recent examples include certain 'celeb' deaths, the Diana phenomenon, 'outrage' that the PM has sribbly handwriting and cannot remember names etc.

And if that isn't enough, now we have the constant drip-drip of terrorist misery and fright. Surely the media doesn't have to go on and on for hours about where this plane bomber went to school, what his favourite drink was et al. It is yet more feeding the frenzy.

It is high-time people started rejecting the crap we get fed, switching off and ignoring the media-obsessed headless chickens who are too busy creating news to be reporting it.

Bring back 3 main bulletins, Richard Baker and some proper journalism!

Sir Terry Wogan

The Great Man has just one week left on the breakfast show; one of the greatest, and most under rated broadcasters of his generation, the Togmeister will be back, though, on February 14th, with a new live show -on sunday mornings !
